PROBLEM
The world of art auctions feels overwhelming and elitist.
Many see it as an unapproachable “members-only” culture.
Users feel intimidated, unsure of where to start or what to consider.
The buying process is filled with jargon, making it difficult to navigate.
The result: users either disengage or make purchases with lingering doubt.
JOURNEY
The design process combined research, ideation, and iterative prototyping.
Research: Users (busy professionals, new art buyers) wanted warmth, simplicity, and transparency. They needed clear guidance without jargon.
Insights: Pain points included intimidation, difficulty justifying price, lack of transparency, inefficient processes, time constraints, and fear of costly mistakes.
Exploration: I tested flows that emphasised clarity, warmth, and usability, stripping down complexity and creating a system where exploration feels natural.
Iteration: Multiple prototypes were tested to refine navigation, bidding flows, and content presentation.
SOLUTION
Atrium transforms the art auction experience into something approachable:
Simplicity at the core: A clean, intuitive interface with no hidden jargon.
Guidance without overwhelm: Clear but crucial data about artwork to help decisions feel informed.
Warm & inviting: A visual system that feels approachable and inclusive, removing the cold elitism of auctions.
Bidding made easy: A streamlined process where placing and tracking bids feels effortless.
Confidence for new users: Tips, resources, and categories that help them learn while they explore.
